From floods to LED flashlights, why LED lights are better

There are many lighting options available out there on the market today, and there have been some fairly major technological advancements over the past few decades. One notable one is the creation of the compact fluorescent bulb. This was a light bulb that was longer lasting, efficient, and more durable then standard lighting. However there is another that has emerged to be the most powerful lighting created to date.
LED lights may not be the brightest light you can have, or have the ability to go as far as other lights, but the effect that it is having on the lighting industry, as well as customers wallets can not be overstated. To begin with, although the initial shock may turn them away in regard to the upfront cost, the money that you will save is substantial. It doesn’t matter if you are buying replacement bulbs for your home or a cheap LED flashlight, the durability alone is enough to make these lights the best thing to happen since the invention of the original bulb.
The durability of these lights is created using a solid construction that does not use a filament, as most traditional lighting does. This gives the LED a remarkable lifespan compared to other bulbs. For example the incandescent bulb lasts nearly 1000 hours, which is just over a month. The compact fluorescent bulb, which was a big improvement, lasts about 10,000 hours. This is the equivalent of over a year strait of use. LEDs are orders of magnitude better in that it can sustain illumination for over 100,000 hours. That is the same as plugging it in and not having to replace it until either there is a better, more efficient technology available, or until your 10 year old is out of collage.
Not only are they highly durable, they are also extremely energy efficient. A good demonstration of this can be seen by replacing a 40 watt bulb. In order to get the same amount of lighting that this bulb creates you would only need to use an LED light that consumed 1.5 watts of power. Again, whether you are using LED flashlights or replacing airport runway lights, there are huge long term savings involved when using this remarkable technology. It is just important to remember that longevity and cost are associated with each other. For example, although the LED cost $20 for just one bulb and the incandescent only $2, it would cost over $260 to have the amount necessary to compete with the LED.
